Rounds 6, 7, 8
Snetterton
12-13 May

Stefan's brother Justin was on hand at Snetterton to offer support and advice, watch the racing and remember his own days in Formula Palmer Audi when he won the first championship in 1998. Now Stefan was following in his footsteps and lying second in the standings. In the two sessions on Saturday, Stefan qualified seventh for the first race and fourth for race two. Pole position for the two races went to Luciano Bacheta and Jack Clarke respectively.

On Sunday, the very changeable weather offered an extra challenge to the drivers. The first race, Round 6, began in light rain and saw Tim Bridgman take an early lead. With two laps to go, though, he had a spin that dropped him down to third place. Then, with the rain becoming heavier, the race was stopped and Bacheta took the win. Stefan was unable to make much progress and he finished sixth.

Conditions were much drier for Round 7, and this time Bridgman took the lead and kept it all the way to the chequered flag. Bacheta, by contrast, crashed out in a collision with Clarke. Tom Bradshaw finished second, while Stefan won a good battle with Richard Plant to take third place.

Torrential rain meant Round 8 started with the safety car leading the field around for the first three laps. When the race got going properly, Bridgman immediately grabbed the lead and went on to take another win. Stefan was delighted to finish second, well ahead of the rest of the field. "It's been the wettest conditions I've raced in in cars," he said afterwards, "so to get second and be right up at the top of the leaderboard is just fantastic."

Justin was impressed with Stefan's efforts: "He's put in some good controlled performances, which is great considering his lack of experience, and while he's got a lot to learn, he's doing a fantastic job."

Stefan left Snetterton only five points off the lead of the championship, though Bridgman's two wins moved him up into second place behind Bacheta.
