Stefan drove his first laps in his 2009 Indy Lights car on Monday 30 March in a private testing session at Sebring International Raceway in Florida. In the number 19 FIRST Motorsports car prepared by Walker Racing, he ran over 200 miles without a hitch. FIRST Motorsports team owner Jon Lewis was happy with the day's work.
"Stefan did a great job," he said afterwards. "I was very impressed with how smooth he is with the car, especially never being in an Indy Lights car before. Stefan was very consistent and worked well with his engineer to steadily increase the performance of the car. We ran over 200 miles and Stefan was consistent even with over 100 miles on his first set of tyres. We're all looking forward to this weekend at St Pete. We weren't the quickest on Monday, but we were right on pace. With the combination of a new untested car, a driver who's never been in one of these cars or ever seen the track before, I was extremely pleased with the outcome. Especially considering many of the other teams have had a lot of testing under their belts before."
There's no time for Stefan to sit back and digest what he learnt at Sebring, because the racing starts right away. The first Indy Lights practice session at St Petersburg, Florida, is scheduled for 9.25am local time on Friday 3 April, with qualifying for the first of the weekend's two races taking place at 4.45pm. Qualifying for race two is on Saturday at 2.55pm. The races themselves are on Saturday 4 April at 4.45pm and Sunday 5 April at 10am.
